Arrival in Caprese Michelangelo; welcome drink and accommodation in your hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Breakfast in Hotel. First Hiking. Transfer to La Verna for the first hiking as far as Pieve Santo Stefano (h 4:30). Count Orlando of Chiusi gave La Verna to Francis on May 8, 1213 as a retreat specially favourable for contemplation, and in 1218 built him the chapel Santa Maria degli Angeli. In August, 1224, frustrated by the changes in the Order of Friars Minor, Francis withdrew to La Verna to keep a forty days fast in preparation for Michaelmas and while praying on the mountainside he received (on or about 14 September) the stigmata. At arrival, time for visiting the ancient hamlet and for a drink. Transfer back to your hotel, dinner and Overnight.
Breakfast in Hotel. Second Hiking: from Pieve Santo Stefano as far as Caprese Michelangelo (h 3:00). After the hiking you will be back to your hotel. Dinner and Overnight.
Transfer for the third hike: Caprese Michelangelo - Anghiari (h 3:00); km 16,00. Once in Anghiari, visit of the ancient castrum, a fortified village that dominates the Tiber Valley.
The original nucleus of the town dates from the eleventh century when the Camaldolese monks, mostly supporters of economic and artistic development of the place, helped to shape the country. Here we will visit the old town penetrating into narrow streets and admiring the splendid panorama opens over the Tiber valley, at the foot of the Alpe della Luna: the same landscape often immortalized by the brush of the master of Borgo San Sepolcro in his works.
Anghiari is also very famous thanks to Leonardo da Vinci. The Battle of Anghiari (1505) is a currently lost painting by Leonardo, at times referred to as "The Lost Leonardo", which some commentators believe to be still hidden beneath one of the later frescos in the Salone del Cinquecento (Hall of the Five Hundred) in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Its central scene depicted four men riding raging war horses engaged in a battle for possession of a standard, at the Battle of Anghiari in 1440.
Breakfast and departure. It i also possible to extend the stay for visiting the area!
